🌱 What to do with potted hellebores? 🌱

So you bought some hellebores in a grocery store. What now?

If you in a garden zone 6 (and colder)

– Enjoy them indoors for a few weeks to a month
– Keep them away from the heat of radiators and fireplaces
– Water if the soil is dry, they also appreciate misting
– They aren’t meant to be indoor plants so find a place with cooler temps until you can plant them out
– Unheated garage, a room where you can crack a window open, porch, greenhouse – anything where the temps are around 40 – 50 F or 5 – 10 C
– As soon as the weather is warm and ground starts to thaw plant outside

If you are in milder climate and your ground is not frozen

– Enjoy them indoors for a few weeks to a monthl
– Keep them away from the heat of radiators and fireplaces
– Prepare to be planted outside
– Acclimate your plant to light levels outside gradually
– After it’s acclimated, plant and mulch a little extra
– The foliage and flowers may droop if your temps fall below freezing, it’s normal, no need to worry

Overall, Hellebores are incredibly tough plants! They prefer shady locations in warmer climates but can take a bit of sun up north. Rich soil is preferred but I had a lot of luck growing mine in dry shade. Good luck and enjoy!
